What is Tachi?

The tachi, later the katana, is the close-quarters sword utilized by the samurai and symbolizes life. It is their most recognizable weapon, and consists of a curved blade and a handle. A samurai must rely on his tachi for life. Yoshitsune wields a tachi throughout the course of the book, from his training until his death.
