Who is Mountain from Salem Falls and what is their importance?

Mountain is a prisoner who serves time with Jack St. Bride. He tells Jack that as long as Jack gets every answer on Jeopardy right, he won't rape Jack. Jack does get one wrong eventually, but he tells Mountain he can't break Jack. Mountain decides to leave Jack alone and is soon released from prison.
