Anderson paints a dark picture of the way in which teenage boys truly do not understand the grave effects that rape and other forms of sexual violence have upon a victim. Searching for the causes of this ignorance, Anderson states that no one has ever “told him the rules of intimacy/or the law” (180). Instead, the boys get only warnings about condoms and are left to their own devices, where they then use pornography as their sole source of knowledge about women. She believes that this dynamic is what leads to teenage boys’ tendency to be ignorant about topics such as consent and objectification.
