Throughout the poem entitled, “forgiveness,” Anderson instructs the reader to add, subtract, multiply, and divide a series of numbers, each based on their own experiences involving sexual abuse, molestation, harassment, and other products of a misogynistic society. In the poem’s final stanza, Anderson gives one final order. She tells the reader to study the number and to forgive themselves “no matter what it is” (207).
