In a short poem entitled “overheard on a train,” (213) Anderson recites for the reader a comment she had heard once while riding a train. While emitting “a rainfall of tears,” (213) a young woman had stated that she had felt that she had to “just let him/do it/cuz if you don’t/his friends talk/shit about you/online” (213). The fact that Anderson only overhears this comment, rather than being able to see the speaker, underscores for the reader the universality of the experience.
