In one instance of Anderson’s stated intent to raise her daughters in a different manner than she had been raised, Anderson discusses the way in which her own mother had been made to feel ashamed of her tall, strong body. Due to her shame, Anderson’s mother had skulked about, ruining her posture as she tried to reduce the amount of space she took up in the world. Anderson had been determined not to let her own daughters be ashamed of their bodies, if at all possible.
