In the poem entitled “forgiveness,” (206) Anderson juxtaposes the art of poetry with the art of mathematics, thereby creating an interdisciplinary work. As Anderson moves through the poem, she speaks directly to her reader, whom she instructs to add and subtract particular numbers as the poem progresses. All of the numbers asked of the reader involve acts to which women in a patriarchal society are often subjected, such as molestation, sexual harassment, and workplace discrimination.
