In the poem, Anderson notes that in tenth grade, the provision of the students’ health textbooks had been delayed by months. The delay was due to the school’s board’s demand that the chapters about sex be removed from the books before any students received them. After discussing the way in which sexual education was sorely lacking in Anderson’s schools, Anderson ends the poem on a sarcastic note, stating that “Maybe they/just really liked babies and wanted us/to start breeding as soon as possible” (83).
