What is the setting of Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix?

The novel begins in Clifton Village, a small town outside of Indianapolis. Jessie and her family live in the year 1840, or at least they think they do. The novel opens at Jessie's home. Jessie follows her mother to the Benton's home to learn that the Benton children are sick. Ma tells Jessie she might have to go on a special journey.
