Who is Jannie from Roses Are Red and what is their importance?

Jannie is Alex's daughter from his first marriage. She becomes ill during the time Alex is working on the case and suffers a seizure during what is a normal boxing match with her father. Jannie then suffers multiple seizures before it is discovered that she is suffering from a brain tumor.
