Eugene McCarthy was the Senator of the state of Minnesota during the 1950's and 1960's. In 1968, Senator McCarthy announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President. He ran largely on an anti-Vietnam War platform. McCarthy was popular with young voters, particularly after the Tet Offensive.
