I can't speak for you but I find literature brings me the experiences of people far greater than me. It also reminds me of the frailties inherit in humanity. It tells me about the great things human beings are capable of and the depravity human beings can gravitate towards. Above all, literature brings meaning into my life. It gives my reality a sense of the mythic which I can incorporate into how I view the world.
