Importance of American Flags

The American flags the Cruz girls and Grandma make for Memorial Day demonstrate the sacrifice soldiers offered to make America a great and a free country. Grandma recognizes this gift on Memorial Day because she has someone else deliver the flags when she does not have the heart to. She is demoralized by the capture of the Cruzes, but she still honors the sacrifice soldiers have made to protect the country.
