Who is Wild Bill Cody from Return from Tomorrow and what is their importance?

Wild Bill Cody is the nickname given to a Polish man rescued from a prison camp at the end of the war. George says that when he's overwhelmed by the death and dying going on around him, he does what he's learned to do - he walks around the camp looking for someone who shows the Light of Jesus. This is how he finds Wild Bill.
