Who is the antagonist in Residents and Transients by Bobbie Ann Mason?

Mason does not include an indentifiable antagonist in the story. In my opinion, Mary, the protagonist, is also the antagonist. In her inability to relate her own emotions, Mary is her own worst enemy.
