Who is Mr. Trent from Caliban Cove and what is their importance?

Mr. Trent is the mysterious benefactor who tells the Raccoon City S.T.A.R.S. about the Spencer mansion, and he tells David about Caliban Cove. Both time, he provides the groups with cryptic messages regarding the facilities. Mr. Trent works with the Umbrella executives in the Epilogue, but he does not know how long he can continue their game.
