Why does Aunt Jeanne tell Cameron that Simon Brinks is not his father?

Aunt Jeanne tells Cameron that Simon Brinks is not his father. His mother might have had flaws, but she was not stupid. If Cameron's father had been a big-shot businessman or a productive member of society, or even alive, she would not have let him miss out on being in Cameron's life.
