Who is Isabel?

Isabel Fernandez is one the novel's protagonists. She is the daughter of Papi and her mother, the granddaughter of Lito, and Ivan's best friend. Isabel is eleven-years-old, “and all lanky arms and legs. Her brown face was splotchy with freckles, and her thick black hair was cut short for the summer and pulled back behind her ears”. She loves music, her family, and her best friend and next door neighbor, Ivan Castillo.
