Hayley Phillips from Red Lily is the protagonist in the story. She has had a difficult life. First her mother leaves them, and then later her father dies. She manages to take care of herself, but finds herself pregnant. She comes to the Harper House for unwed mothers. She is a loyal friend to others and stands up for them even if it puts her in danger.
