The LSATs symbolize the uncertainty Alex initially faces over his future, as his impatient nature makes it difficult for him to determine if he should immediately begin a political career or be patient in his approach. He at first holds off on taking the law school exam, and then when he does, is unsure whether or not to look at his test results and seriously pursue law school. However, once he learns about Henry's youth shelter in Brooklyn, Alex has more clarity about his future and decides to pursue his law degree at NYU.
