The Church figures prominently in the novel. The Springers seek advice from Reverend Eccles because he is their spiritual advisor. Harry watches people go to church while sitting in Ruth’s apartment. Going to church once he is back with Janice makes him feel exuberant and that his life will be better. It is place that is associated with healing and love.
