What is Naxos School

In the beginning of the story, "Quicksand," Helga Crane teaches at a school for black children in Naxos, Georgia. Although the school is designed as a progressive, cutting-edge educational institution to help educate blacks and raise the standards of African Americans, there is bitter backstabbing among the staff and a condescending attitude toward the children.
