PUSH, the novel by Sapphire that would go on to be made into the movie, Precious, uses the title as a representative of Precious' life. She has had to push her way through living. It is easy to see throughout the book that Precious does not value her life as no one around her as ever valued it. She has to push her way to an understanding of herself and others, despite the obstacles.
