What kind of person is Tommo in Private Peaceful?

Tommo is timid, kind, and caring. He is very dependent upon his older brother, who has always looked out for him. When he joins the service, Tommo is underaged, homesick, and afraid. Over the course of the novel, he proves himself to be brave soldier.
