What does Victor plan to do about divorcing Amanda and why?

Victor suggests that they live apart for some time. After an appropriate amount of time passes, he will allow her to file for divorce, thus saving face for Amanda. Victor clearly cares about Amanda enough to worry about her reputation, which would surely suffer if he were to divorce her on grounds of adultery.
