Miri is described as an intelligent, precocious, fourteen-year-old girl. She is fair in all things and has a deep understanding of right and wrong. Miri is also known to be helpful and curious. Miri loves her village but she dreams of having more. Always mistrustful and suspicious of lowlanders, Miri discovers that her mistrust came from ignorance. She longs to fit in, but she feels isolated from the people around her because she doesn't work in the quarry. While at school, she misses Marda and Peder's companionship.
