Peris was Tally's best friend since they were littlies. In the beginning of the previous novel, Tally snuck into New Pretty Town in order to see Peris and this is how she met Shay. In this novel, Tally and Peris are once again together, best friends in New Pretty Town. Peris is also a member of the Crims with Tally and Shay and he goes along with the plan for Zane and Tally to escape to New Smoke with some of the other Crims. However, when it comes time for Peris to escape with Tally, he changes his mind.
