Who is The Female Israeli Soldier and Naomi from Portnoy's Complaint and what is their importance?

Both The Soldier and Naomi, in contrast to the shikses identified above, are very Jewish. Both live in Israel, both live austere Jewish lives, and both have strong beliefs about the way Jews do, and should, function in the world and in relationship to other people.
