Who is Daj from Plain Kate and what is their importance?

Daj (Mother) is the elder woman in the Roamers' clan. She quickly accepts Plain Kate into the clan and treats her like a daughter. When Wen, Daj's husband becomes ill, however, Daj is one of the first to blame Plain Kate.
