How does the author use foreshadowing in People of Darkness?

In Chapters Eight through Twelve, we learn that Charley's employer does not want his (Charley's) body autopsied. As a result, he tells Wolf to hang around and bury his body in secret. This suggests that the employer is attempting to hide something about Charley's death, even though the reader already knows that Charley died of cancer. Although it is rather confusing, this foreshadows a time when the cause of death will be revealed and its significance explained.
