What is dialysis, and why does Bev have to have dialysis?

Dialysis is a process where a person's blood is run out of their veins and through a tube that is connected to a machine. The machine cleans the blood and pumps the blood through a different tube and back into a different vein. Bev has dialysis because diabetes messed up her kidneys so they do not filter impurities out of her blood.
