What is the author's style in Paranormalcy by Kiersten White?

The story is told in the first person from Evie's point of view. This allows the reader inside her head, so they know what she is thinking at all times. Through this, the reader gets a firsthand view of IPCA from an agent, but also a firsthand view of what it is like to be a paranormal since Evie is both. The reader sees what she goes through when she finds out that she is paranormal and can begin to understand how hard it is for people who are different and feared. Through Evie, the reader can also see some of the prejudices that IPCA bear against paranormals. Since the reader knows what Evie is thinking and feeling, they can appreciate her transformation as she comes to terms with what she is and her own prejudice, and tries to change. Seeing things from Evie's point of view allows for the story to be told with plenty of emotion and suspense as the reader sees how frightened or upset she is and really fears for her. It also allows for the love story to be more effective, as Evie's feelings about Lend and about Reth are clear. As the story is told from Evie's point of view, the reader is also able to sympathize with and relate to Evie.
