Who is Pallas Truelove from Paradise and what is their importance?

Pallas Truelove runs away with an artist employed at her school. They go to her mother's house, where the artist soon engages in an affair with her mother as well. Heartbroken, Pallas runs away, eventually winding up at the Convent.
