Othello is presented as a prideful man, who is a slive to passion.... particularly jealousy. He views the world around him in absolutes, something Iago knows well and exploits throughout the play. As a military leader, Othello is subtle and wise. In matters of the heart, however, he is rash and judgmental, easily manipulated. Othello, a moor, is especially defensive of the way he is viewed in society, particularly when it comes to matters of sex, marriage, and emotional stability. As a result, his judgment in these matters is easily clouded, and it is this doubt or lack of control that quickly snowballs into paranoia and violence.
