James Hyer is the county Sheriff in James County, New Hampshire who is in attendance at the Academy when Dallas arrives with her group and a warrant. At fifty-three years of age, he was born and raised in the country and spent four years right out of school in the army. He has worn his badge for twenty years, and has been Sheriff for the last twelve. James has been married for eighteen years. He has one son, fifteen years old.
