Conrad's mother, Beth is a driven perfectionist and extremely controlling individual; she is unable to deal with Conrad's suicide attempt so close on the heels of losing Jordan in a boating accident. Though everyone sees her as perfect, Cal recognizes that she is actually chaotic, stubborn and impulsive. As Beth begins to resent his relationship with Conrad she is less able to hide her feelings until finally Calvin begins to call her on her lack of concern for Conrad.
