Daisy Lovelace was a pretentious spinster, who saw herself as a southern belle, complete with bigotry and a small white poodle. Daisy took her "medicine" at every opportunity from a flask she carried, and she never hesitated to voice her distaste for black people, especially around Phemie Washington. Daisy lived through a harrowing event that changed her considerably, and as a result, she became more honest and likable as the story progressed. Daisy's Cheyenne husband, Mr. Bloody Foot, earned his name when Daisy's dog latched onto his foot and wouldn't let go.
