Delilah’s bar serves as a symbol for safe spaces. Throughout the novel, the queer characters gather at Delilah’s for drinks, parties, and drag shows. The bar serves as a physical space of acceptance for characters who could be verbal attacked, persecuted, or rejected from straight bars. Delilah’s also facilitates connections between the protagonists and other members of the LGBTQ community. The author utilizes the fictitious bar to support the need for LGBTQ safe spaces in real life.
