On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

Certainly the chapter, On Living, describes the horrific accident King suffered while walking near his home. How would you summarize King's accident? What is the significance of this accident on his writing?

In the chapter titled, On Living, King describes the accident as being hit by a blue van. The driver was trying to control his dog and never saw King. After the accident, King spent several weeks in the hospital and had many operations to repair his legs. After he went home, King had to endure long hours of physical therapy. Because of this accident, King began to look at writing differently. He changed his view of writing to 'writing as life support'.
