In the chapter on families of the dying, Mr. Y. is described as an elderly, farm-type person, who brought his wife into a big city hospital. He was unfamiliar with the city and extremely uncomfortable in the urban environment. In additions to struggling with expenses and trying to find an appropriate place to sleep, he was only allowed to see his wife for five minutes every hour. Mr. Y expressed his anger toward the nurses to the interviewers. The research staff then helped him find more comfortable quarters, but were not able to help him much more than that.
