Who is Matteo?

Matteo is the handsome and charming man Olga meets at her local dive bar, Noir. When they first meet, Olga just wants to be alone. However, Matteo's appearance and demeanor take her by surprise. He is not only affable, but perceptive and witty. They spend several hours talking and have sex that night. In the morning, however, Olga begins to panic that she does not know how to engage in an authentic romantic relationship. Matteo is patient and gracious. Throughout the novel, he both challenges Olga to confront her vulnerabilities and encourages her to quash her insecurities. They end up in a committed relationship by the end of the novel.
