Who is Johnny?

Johnny is Blanca's former husband, and Olga and Prieto's father. After Johnny and Blanca fell in love they got married. They were both active revolutionaries, and believed that making sacrifices for the sake of their freedom was of paramount importance. However, Johnny also wanted a family. His desire for children and his time in Vietnam altered the couple's marital dynamic. Though he cared for his children, Johnny became addicted to drugs. Ultimately, he contracted AIDS from intravenous drug use. Olga and Prieto often mourn their father, and lament their mother's neglect for him.
