who is Jan?

Jan is one of men who worked on Olga's catering crew. At the start of the novel, she is shocked to discover that Jan committed suicide after discovering he was HIV-positive. When Prieto learns the news, he becomes frantic. He and Jan had a sexual encounter years prior. Prieto is not only devastated about Jan's death but concerned about his own health.
