Captain William Moore Marsden is the husband of Lucy and the father of nine. He had the distinction of being the oldest surviving Confederate soldier. He was thirteen years of age when he joined the Confederate Army in Falls, North Carolina in 1862. He was from a wealthy slave-holding family and was born in 1849.
