What is the main conflict in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck?

There are many conflicts in this story. One of the larger ones is the isolation of itinerant workers during the great depression. A more specific one involves Curley, the boss's son. He is after Lennie because he is a big guy yet vulnerable. Both George and Lennie have to be careful because they don't want to get fired. They need this job.
