Odysseus's intelligence is exampled throughout the story. One of the early examples is when he devises a plan to keep his crew safe from the song of the Sirens. He has them put wax in their ears, then has himself tied to the mast. When he's on Calypso's island he is smart enough to know that causing Calypso to be jealous was not in his (or his crew's) best interest so he does not tell her that he misses his wife. He is also wise when he determines to give the Cyclops wine.
