How does the author use foreshadowing in Nostromo?

In Part I, Chapter I, the disappearance of the American prospectors foreshadows the ever present danger in the silver mine. The mine promises great wealth, but it is also a source of trouble for its owners. The mine represents great wealth, and as a result, it triggers an inhuman amount of greed and possessiveness that drives people mad.
