Muriel Glass is Seymour's wife, and the first character to appear in the story. She defends her husband and his behavior to her mother, but at the same time discusses it with a psychiatrist she meets at a hotel. Muriel waited for Seymour while he was away during the war, and she continues to support him in her own way. She is described as a shallow, young woman, who is just as concerned with hats and dresses as she is with her husband's strange actions. Muriel spends a lot of her time in the hotel room, sleeping.
