On September 11, why does Naheed walk to her sister's school on the way home from school?

As Naheed walks toward her bus, she hears the other students talking about the attacks in New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. Some of the kids start saying that the attacks were caused by Muslims. She does not get on the bus. Instead, she walks to her sister's school to find her.
