Michael Stanton, in an overview of Asimov for the Reference Guide to American Literature, says that Asimov "is notable for a straightforward and unadorned style. The meaning of his fiction is very much on the surface and, while important themes run throughout his stories, symbol-hunting generally goes unrewarded."
